Lifeboat Network underwent a brief security breach on Monday, May 1, 2017. During this time, a Junior Staff Member’s personal account was compromised, allowing hackers to access the Lifeboat Network Twitter account, as well as granting some server code access. There is no reason to believe that user passwords (which are stored using a high-strength hashing algorithm) have been compromised. Furthermore, Lifeboat does not store any personal user information.
In an effort to maintain transparency, Lifeboat Network will provide further updates on Twitter and via this blog post should further information surface. Thanks for your patience as we work to resolve the situation.
Update: The situation has been resolved, the hackers’ damaging activity was limited to locking down our Twitter for 2 days. Internal security has been tightened to make this impossible in the future.
